What Is Traditional Dog Sledding?

Traditional Dog Sledding has been around possibly over 5000 years ago! Sled Dogs actually provided the transportation people needed. It's said that the first formal sled dog race was in about 1850. One of the most well known sled dog events in modern history was the dog sled relay (over 1100 miles) Anchorage to Nome Alaska to save the sick children there that desperately needed Diphtheria Antitoxin to save their lives an airplane transportation was not available! This run was nicknamed the “Serum Run” and the Iditarod Race started in about 1967 commemorates this Serum Run!

Traditional Dog Sledding is a team of dogs 12 to 16 dogs  tethered to a sled rope line called a TOW LINE. Each dog is connected to the TOW LINE with a TUG LINE.

What is Dryland Mushing

Dryland Mushing is a way for sled dog teams to stay in shape in the offseason or get into shape for the coming season when there is no snow! Dryland mushing has become some what of a normal for people in areas that get less snow in the winter! In addition Dog Carting can also be known as Dryland Mushing for other breeds that aren't as WINTER capable as sled dog breeds and not as fast but are strong pullers! Dryland Mushing also has competitions similar to Dog sledding competitions but not as long as the weather is usually not as cold! Dog Carting can be used with traditional sled dog lines like a dog sled or some rigs have specialized ridged bars and multipoint harness attachments.

What are Joring Sports?

Dog Sledding,  Dryland Mushing or any sports where a dog is pulling a person are called Joring sports. SkiJoring (dog or dogs pulling a person on cross country skis) for instance has been around for many years and it is possible that it could have started in China in the 1200s! Skijoring can also be done with horses! Joring Sports are often also called Dog-Powerd Sports!

What is Urban Mushing?

Urban Mushing includes all Joring  & Dog Powered Sports but it's usually referred to as people are doing in more populated areas with usually a smaller dog team meaning one or two dogs. I think it is designed to get more people interacting & exercising with their dogs (especially high energy breeds) that live in this modern world as you don't need as much specialized equipment and as large of an area to do it!

What Is Canicross?

Canicross is where the Dog Is connected to your waist like SkiJoring but because you are on terrain other then snow the Dog cannot pull you so easliy as there will be more resistance as you won't be sliding as on skis or skates. But with a hard pulling dog they can pull you off balance so you and your dog need to work together to navigate terrain and be more in step with each other! As with most Dog Pulling sports I always recommend using lines that are designed for theses sports and usually have built in bungee like qualities to absorb some of the dog's abrupt pulling actions for you and your dog's safety and comfort! This was designed to be a running trotting like sport so a trot or running like pace that you and you and your dog establish together is the goal! Other people will do Canicross for more like a hiking like activity with their dog and go at more of a walking/hiking pace and let the dog assist them as Canicross is designed!

What Are Bike Attachments

Somewhere in the early 1990s I believe the Springer Dog Exerciser that attaches to most bikes and  can safely run the dog beside the bike, opened a whole new aspect of exercising all dogs especially sled dog breeds!

What Are Dog-Powered GoCarts?

WooFDriver further pioneered the Springer Dog Exerciser by custom modifying it so it would adapt to 3 wheel trike recumbent trikes and 4 wheel quad recumbent bikes.  So WooFDriver essentially created hybrid dryland dog sled rigs but instead of only sled dogs any dog could do it as they don’t have to pull BUT sled dog breeds and other pulling dogs can propel it if they choose! These bikes WooFDriver calls the Dog-Powered GoCart are pedal and motor propelled again so the dogs do not have to pull! The dogs also are positioned on the side like on a regular bike using the Springer Dog Exerciser Attachments taht he custom fitted to these Dog-Powered GoCarts!

What is a DogPowered Scooter?

As WooFDriver was pioneering these recumbent bike like sled rigs (Dog-Powered GoCarts) with the Springer Dog Exerciser the Dog-Powered Scooter was introduced by Mark Schuette in Oregon. This DogPowered Scooter puts the dogs on the side also like the Springer Dog Exerciser WooFDriver has used on his Dog-Powered GoCarts but The Dog-Powered Scooter uses a UBar to tether the dogs at two points. The dogs can propel this Dog-Powered Scooter and the dog driver can assist by kicking the ground as that’s the idea of a scooter! CLICK HERE TO GO TO DOGPOWEREDSCOOTER.COM

What Is Dog Roading?

A deviation from joring or mushing sports came as hunting breed dog peeps wanted a great way to condition their hunting dogs! These peeps are very familiar with ATVS as many use them when they hunt. So they developed another K9 sport called Dog Roading! Dog Roading is more about resistance though to an untrained eye it looks more like a mushing sled dog sport! The dogs are actually tethered to almost any thing they can’t pull like an ATV or even a horse and since they can’t propel it or even move it, that’s how it becomes about the resistance they will feel from pushing into their specially designed Roading harness! For older dogs and dogs that don't engage it can become just a healthy adventurous walk!

What Is DogMotoSports?

The latest in the DogJoring and Dog Adventuring world is what WooFDriver has pioneered in what he calls DogMotoSports! He has actually developed a concept that merges Dog Roading (resistance) with Joring (dog pulling) aspects ! The flagship for DogMotoSports is WooFDriver's Electric DogSled On Wheels that he has invented! Nothing has ever been done like this before! WooFDriver’s Electric DogSled On Wheels therefore makes it possible for almost all dogs regardless of breed and almost all peeps regardless of physical capacity to adventure with dogs like never before! You gotta SEE this to Believe this!
